THE CHALLENGER CLUB TRAINER PROGRAM
Every soccer player deserves to have the best training available to help develop there level of play. Many organizations would love to have a dedicated professional soccer coach to work with their teams and organizations but are held back by the challenges of recruiting, interviewing, long term contracts etc. But what is the solution?
The Challenger Club Trainer program has been running for 7 years now and has expanded and grown due to the high demand for professional soccer training. Challenger Sports currently has over 120 trainers nationwide. Our program has been hugely successful due to the high level of commitment our staff show and the level of professionalism that we bring to the field.
AGE & ABILITY SPECIFIC COACHING
The training development plans in our curriculum have been taken from top Professional soccer clubs in the UK.
-
Early Touches (age 5-11):
At this young age the players must work to improve their technical ability, this guide of sessions will look at primarily improving the player’s technical ability and improve their understanding of the game.
-
Youth Development (age 12-14):
As the players progress in age we must now spend time developing their decision making process as well as raising their tactical awareness, this guide of sessions will look at developing their game play and also develop a player/ team style of play.
- Tactical Play (age 15-18):
Now that a player has developed it is important now to introduce new systems and strategies to develop the team and broaden their knowledge of soccer.
HIGH QUALITY COACHES
Each member of the Challenger Club Trainer staff is selected from Great Britain and Ireland, and holds a minimum FA coaching license. In 2008, 660 coaches will be selected to coach for Challenger from over 2000 applicants. The most talented and dedicated members of this elite group are then invited to become Challenger Club Trainers.
Unlike many other companies we recognize the difference from camp coaching to in season training and provide the highest level of training for both areas. Challenger staff travel to the UK each year to personally train and prepare Club Trainers for the specific task of coaching your teams with specific focus on: Planning and coaching successful season long programs; Individual and team development; Individual and group assessment; and the specific demands of coaching in the US.
“Thanks for everything. You have truly confirmed that I made the right decision switching to Challenger as CYSA’s training partner” - Rich Anthony, Chelmsford, MA
“Chris was an excellent trainer. He worked tirelessly with the girls. They enjoyed working with him, and loved having him at practice and games” - Gary Burt Derry Eagles (NH)
“Being a coach myself, I have searched myself for a criticism of Tom Hirst. I must say it is almost impossible. Tom immediately develops a rapport with players, and instills trust that he knows the game, and will improve the player’s skills. He is very friendly with all of the coaches he works with, and takes an active role in activities off of the pitch as well. As long as Tom is available, we are thrilled to take him each and every season” - Tim Field: Merrimack (NH)Training Director
“The kids always looked forward to Thursday nights practice. Simon provided great energy; also created a fun and exciting learning environment” - Sean Doolan: Salem (NH)

HOW CAN WE USE A CLUB TRAINER?
- Team Training
The most successful youth teams all receive regular well-planned soccer training programs which follow a consistent philosophy and that develop a system of play that each player becomes familiar with. Your Challenger coach will provide season-long coaching needed to create a well-balanced team.
- Club Coaching
Professional coaches to work with all areas of your club's development. We will provide as much support as needed to ensure that the coach is utilized to the maximum, in the number of hours available.
- Custom created programs
In addition to team coaching, many organizations offer additional weekly sessions for specific age groups or positions. Your Challenger coach can devise a program of soccer instruction, training and game-related coaching for all ages, levels and positions.
- Parent & Coaches clinics
Your Challenger coach can help set up a seasonal coaching program for your coaches and parents; help devise tryouts for your club and also provide your club with an analysis of your club's coach education program.
WHEN CAN WE HIRE A CLUB TRAINER?
Challenger Club Trainers typically start work in the Spring and/or Fall with contracts starting as early as February 1st with the majority ending by November 30th, although we do have the ability to extend the time spent or needed with each club. Your club can enjoy the benefits of having a professional coach without the headaches of having to recruit, interview, hire and monitor an employee.
We will take care of all of this and more to ensure the best possible experience for your club:
- Qualified, experienced staff members who have been thoroughly screened and briefed before being accepted onto our program.
- Complete liability coverage – a certificate of liability insurance will be mailed to you prior to the start date of the agreement.
- We take care of all employment issues e.g employment contracts, visas, workers compensation, medical insurance etc.
- Complete support from Challenger Regional Directors who will help plan, organize and administrate your CCT Program.
- We can attempt to find a club nearby to help share a CCT if you cannot commit to having a full time trainer.

This program is the first step towards creating a professional environment for both your players and coaches. Through structured session plans and consistency of coaching methodology, your players will be empowered to reach the next level of play. Your Soccer club will have a dedicated professional coach for all the sessions thus building a sustained relationship with the club and its biggest resource – the players.
