Challenger Club Trainer (CCT) Programme 2007

Challenger’s full time US staff have achieved much success at the club level. Their dedication and commitment has helped thousands of young players nationwide to improve, gain confidence and go on to achieve success at high school, college and beyond. As part of a initiative introduced by Challenger through it’s Challenger Club Trainer (CCT) programme clubs now have the opportunity to secure the services of a Challenger Coach for a whole season.

How does it work?

Coaches will be contracted to work for periods of 5 to 9 months. CCT contracts start as early as February 1st (Texas, Atlanta, Florida) but others start in March (mid west ) or April (New England and Wisconsin) . The coach will work with a club for the Spring, then work as a coach on the British Soccer Camps throughout the summer and then return to the same club for the Fall. In some cases the coach may move to a new club for the Fall season. The coach will then return to the UK for the winter. Some contracts will run through mid October and all contracts will be finished by November 30th which is the last day you are legally allowed to be in the country. For the spring of 2007 we are anticipating anywhere from 60 – 80 CCT’s being placed throughout the United States.

Who can apply?

This programme is open to coaches who have previously worked for Challenger’s British Soccer Camps or have previous experience with another accredited soccer camp company in the US. All potential candidates should complete the online application form at www.challengersports.com and make sure you state your interest in the CCT position. Placements will be issued anytime from December 1st of 2006 up until Mid March of 2007. You typically do not have a choice of where to work as all placements are hand picked according to your qualifications, age and experience and the needs of the club. Coaches who have worked as CCT’s in the Fall of 2006 will be given a choice of club, particularly in those cases where the club they worked with in the Fall have requested them back for the following spring.

What will a typical week look like?

Clubs must contract to a minimum of 12 hours coaching per week for a minimum period of 6 weeks. They will have the option to contract for additional hours up to a maximum of 30 hours. In addition to this the coach will be available for a maximum of 5 hours per week to assist the British Soccer Regional Director in promotional work for the British Soccer Camps. In the Spring and Fall a typical week will consist of 2–4 hours of coaching each evening and then weekend work consisting of coaching and/or evaluating games. The nature of the coaching will be at the discretion of the club and candidates will need to possess the experience and flexibility to work with groups of wide age ranges and abilities. Candidates will be expected to work with youths and adults and will be expected to report on a weekly basis to their respective Regional Director.

Will I need a visa?

All candidates employed for the Spring will be issued a H-2B visa. Challenger Sports will be responsible for acquiring and paying for the visa. This visa will allow you to work for Challenger Sports for a period of up to 9 months. Challenger will also provide and pay for a comprehensive medical insurance package to cover the coach for the duration of their stay. To qualify for one of our H2B visas you need to have at least two and/or preferably three of the following:-

1. Current CV
2. Associates Degree (two years of study) or preferably a full Degree in Physical Education, Sports Science or other related qualification.
3. Minimum of FA Level 2/UEFA C/Prelim coaching certificate or equivalent.
4. Letter on club letterhead stating that you have played a minimum of two years at the semi-pro level or professional level.

Copies of all of your documents need to be mailed to Mollie Kehr by December 1st, 2006 to 8022 Flint, Lenexa, KS. 66214, USA

What about pay, accommodation, transport etc?

The cost to get on the CCT programme will be £300 if you choose to get and pay for your own flight.

If you choose to have Challenger pay for your flight the cost of the programme will be £600

Payment for the programme fee can be made in advance or can be deducted from taking 50% from your weekly wage from the spring CCT contract and the remaining 50% from the summer contract. Successful applicants will be required to sign a contract of employment outlining his/her responsibilities and Challenger’s expectations.

This will cover the cost of your visa and insurance for the duration of your stay. Fees will only be due when you are offered a contract. Cheques can be mailed to Mel Davies at Pentrebach, Sunlea Crescent, Usk Road, Pontypool, Torfaen, NP4 8AD.

Coaches will be paid a weekly salary which will be dependent upon the hours worked but will be in the region of $200 - $300. Coaches will be incentivized to acquire additional hours up to the maximum of 30 hours a week. In the majority of cases the club will provide transport and accommodation for the coach. If this is not provided by the club Challenger will provide a car and accommodation.

There will be a mandatory training/orientation day for all CCT’s which will be held on Saturday, January 27th of 2007. Details will be mailed to you on the location (probably the Royal Court Hotel in Coventry) and agenda well in advance.
