There were 3 camps in Brisbane in September school holidays: Southside Eagles, Teviot Downs and Moggill FC. All 3 camps were received enthusiastically by the young boys and girls, and their parents and club coaches. In all my 46 years around football, I have not seen such a progressive and enjoyable camp, where the children are taught all the essential skills in such a fantastic and enthusiastic manner. All 9 coaches who came over from the UK were fully qualified professional football coaches and their dedication and excitement that they brought to Australia, was the most refreshing I have seen.
This last summer (2008) in the USA, Challenger has coached over 100,000 kids in the British way of football and this revolution has come to Australia. Challenger supplied close to 700 fully qualified professional football coaches and they intend to bring their successes here to Australia.
At the Moggill FC camp I watched a 5 year old learn, in the space of 3 days, to use both feet, while running with his head up, looking to pass the ball to a team mate and having the confidence to stand on the ball while holding off someone who was trying to take the ball away from him. – I wish we could get the senior team to do this, never mind a first year player.
Do I recommend the camp? You bet I do, in fact, Moggill FC will be holding Challenger camps in every school holiday from now on if I have it my way. This was such a fantastic event that I think in 5 years time everyone playing football in Qld will have some association with Challenger Sports. For Parents, if you want your kids to have fun, learn new skills in football and learn to respect each other and be responsible, then this is what you have been looking for.
As a Senior coach and President at Moggill FC, I want to show the children of our club a potential “Career Pathway”. With the coaching techniques and directions we are bringing to the club in this coming season 2009, we hope to start down this path to find the next Harry Kewell or Tim Cahill @ Moggill. For instance, just this last week a 12 year old signed professional papers with Manchester United. Just think about that 'Living' the dream… " John Battersby, President - Moggill FC
