At the recruitment day you will learn more about the company and what to expect in the summer by one of our UK Directors. The group will then go outside and after a practical coaching demonstration from one of our senior staff each candidate will then be expected to conduct a short practical coaching session within their group for 10 - 15 minutes from a topic listed on the website. The day will end with a short individual face to face interview to determine the candidates suitability to the programme. Each candidate will be required to bring with them to interview the following:-

  • Pen and Paper, Photocopies of Coaching Certificates, 3 references, Photocopy of Passport details page, Signed copy of your programme agreement, Football, Indoor and outdoor clothing and footwear.

We will also use this time to began evaluating which of the age groups and levels of players your personality and coaching style would be best suited for. You will be asked to set up and run a short example of a coaching session for us. We would like to see you set up a basic unopposed technical practice and gradually add elements of pressure & opposition and aiming to finally finish in a game related activity. You will only be required to coach for 10-15 minutes and as the majority of our campers are between the ages of 7 and 12 we recommend that you create your coaching plan as if you were coaching 12 players of average ability aged 12 years old. We will be looking for you to demonstrate the following:

  • Set up of the appropriate coaching area
  • Communication of clear instructions to the group
  • Stepping in and coaching an individual within the group
  • Gradually adding pressure
  • Enthusiasm and good use of voice
  • Progression of your practice from unopposed, to opposed, to game related
  • Please read the section on "Coaching the Challenger Way" to get more information on how we expect your session to progress.
  • Here is a blank coaching plan for you to use to plan out your session. Please make an additional copy and hand to the Challenger Sports Senior staff member conducting the assessment.

You will be given one of the following topics to coach.

  • Close dribbling & Turning
  • Running with the ball
  • Shooting
  • Heading
  • Short Passing
  • Long Passing
  • Control on the ground
  • Control in the air
  • Volleying
  • The scissors move
